MTG Arena became available for mobile play starting with Android early access on January 28, 2021. It intentionally diverges from the metagame of Standard and other formats to provide an alternative experience to play. In December 2021, Alchemy was introduced as a fast and ever-evolving experience. Players would be able to use cards from sets no longer in Standard in a newly introduced format called " Historic".
